Being The Secret Garbage Man
There are days when I wake up and feel like I have a major hangover, but didn’t actually go to the party. Days like this is when everything is just off; my mind, body and spirit are totally out of whack, and I am walking around looking (and feeling!) like the walking dead. I am sure you know the kind, and if you don’t; believe me they are not fun! Today was one of those days. Woke up exhausted, dropped & broke things, zero motivation, stepped in my dogs smelly present and probably threw my phone 20 times from losing my temper with it. By 11am I had already driven to the store and bought myself a block of chocolate, with half of it gone before I had even left the car park!
When I find myself in these situations it can be hard to keep going. It is like fighting your way up hill, which is running with golden syrup and you are wearing one of those itchy jumpers while reciting your 7x tables; in French! All I want to do is go back to bed, or numb myself with TV. The last thing I want to do is think about why I am feeling this way, but it is the very thing I need to be doing. I need to work out if this is my negative energy or not. If it is mine, then I can work through the issues around this energy. However if it is not my energy, but in fact another person’s I have picked up, then I need to dump it, and fast!
In regard to connecting to another person’s energy – you often don’t know you have collected their negative vibes, but assume it is you that is feeling down. When a whole lot of stuff is going bad, I stop and ask myself “ is this my energy, or something I have picked up from someone else”? Negative energy is like a contagious cold and you can catch it from anyone. Family, friends, co-workers, that random sitting next to you on the train reading Fifty Shades of Grey. If it is my energy I can usually discover a reason why I am feeling caught in these low vibes; however if it is someone else’s “garbage” I am carrying I often cannot connect to the root cause of these negative vibes getting me down. There is never any reason you should be carrying anyone else’s negative energy. It won’t help them, and it certainly won’t help you! So if you are carrying someone else’s garbage, it is time to throw it in the trash; being someone else’s garbage man, is NOT part of your life description!
When you do a quick tune in and discover that you are feeling down, and it is because you have decided (usually subconsciously) to carry someone else’s negative garbage for them; then fear not. We will just have to dump all the rubbish in the Universal garbage bin! There are many ways to do this, but I am going to share with you the favourite one that I use.
When I finally check in with myself and discover that, no, this is not my energy that is holding me down, my first response is to stop and remove myself from whatever I may be doing. (Which in my case means; actually turning off Gilmore Girls and putting down the chocolate block!) I then say; “I am sorry, Please forgive me, Thank you, I love you.” By saying this, I am letting myself know that it is not the end of the world that I have collected someone else’s energy and I give myself permission, from a loving heart space, to let this energy go.
Next I tune into where a connection may be to the person I have collected this energy from. I usually see it as a cord of energy, but people can see it as a rope, funnels, chains etc. If you cannot see anything, no stress! You may just sense it is there, (and if not – as they say “ fake it, till you make it” – just imagine that it is there and your intention will do the rest). The next step is to cut ties with this cord (you may sense more than one – that is ok!). You can imagine a sword or some scissors cutting the energy connection between you both. Once this is cut, let the cords go and say; “I deny access to all negative energies and release them back to the Universal Light’. Ask the Universe to clear any residual negative vibrations from your energy field, and take 4 big deep breaths, with your exhale longer than your inhale. This will help bring you back into balanced energy state.

A good point to make here, is to not to get mad at the person for getting you down. It isn’t their fault you caught it. Instead, why not send them some positive energy! They are obviously not having a fabulous time, so instead of sending them more low vibes to add to their collection, ask the Universe to send them Love & Light. Let’s lift them up, and help them get to a positive vibe spot again. By seeking support from the Universe, through your intention to help them, you are then avoiding the circumstances whereby you absorb their negativity.
A win-win situation if I do say so myself!
If you find that you do connect to the negative energy you are experiencing and you recognize it is yours, congratulations! You can now work on releasing and letting go of the negative vibes from your energy field. The first thing is to see if you can identify the root cause of this negativity. For some people this can be the hardest part, especially if the feeling is coming from a fear based issue. If you can identify and feel comfortable releasing this energy by yourself; go for it! If not, why not seek out someone who can help you with this. I find Reiki healers (or other holistic healers) are great for helping me with my own releasing work when it gets a bit tricky!
So next time you find yourself sprawled over the couch with 25 Crunchie wrappers scattered around you and the TV blaring with the latest season of ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ (Hey; No judgement here!), because you just cannot face the world today, step back and take a moment to ask yourself why?
Check that cupboard and see if your garbage man outfit is missing, because if so it is time to take off your rubbish collecting gear and hang that bad boy back up! Who knows, maybe one day we can all retire from being closet garbage men, and learn how to recycle our negative vibes into something worth sharing. Now that is something to come out of the closet for!
Peace & Love All!
