SOPHIE WOOD ~ MY GRATEFUL LIFE
There are many amazing ways to live life with a grateful heart. This interview series ‘My Grateful Life’ explores the lives of people from all over the world who are incorporating an attitude of gratitude into their daily life. We all have our own way of doing things, and practising Gratitude is no different. I have been so inspired by their stories and the tools and tricks they use for living life with a positive mindset and daily gratitude.
So without further ado, I am honoured to introduce you to…
Tell us a little bit about yourself…
I’m Sophie and I run a business called Sophie Zen where I guide women to show up in a sacred and sustainable way. Using tools such as archetypes, essential oils, rituals and storytelling, I encourage my community to bring a more slow and feminine energy to their business.
With my experience and background in social media and marketing, I am also the creator of Sacred Social where I teach my approach to using social media in a way that is deeply rooted with intention, creativity and flow.
On a more personal level, I live in Melbourne with my partner and his parents where I work from #bobthevan (a renovated caravan that sits in our backyard). As a family, we’re obsessed with slow and sustainable living and spend most of our free time in the garden with the vegetables and the chickens or in the kitchen where my partner is always cooking or baking or fermenting!
What does gratitude mean to you?
I have a quote on my bedroom wall that reads:
Joy is the simplest form of gratitude.
And I love this definition because it makes gratitude sound less like something that you have to ‘do’ and more like something that you just are. So I would say that gratitude is when all of the love and happiness and joy that you have in the world is overflowing and shared with the world.
Does Gratitude come easily to you? What problems/issues do you find can block you from expressing/feeling Gratitude?
Yes and no. My biggest challenge with gratitude is getting caught up in how things are ‘supposed’ to look and failing to see how truly blessed I am – in every single moment.
What is a story of a blessing in your life you can share with us?
While I was at university, I really struggled to find a sense of purpose. I felt like I had so much to give – but I was stuck in a situation where nobody could see me for who I truly was. In 2012, I started a blog and I learnt how to express what I truly believed in. The sacred space that this blog gave me was a blessing that changed my life. And it led to a number of opportunities that eventually allowed me to start my business and do work that I love so, so much.
Do you have any go-to trip or tricks to help you practise an attitude of Gratitude?
For me, it’s all about feeling gratitude in my body. And once I’ve embodied it… then I can share it. So each day, I create time and space to sit and really feel gratitude in my body and allow it to really ‘fill me up’.
